Arco, 18/06/2005 Saturday’s start to the European Youth Climbing Days and was truly splendid and great. The fourth edition of the Rock Junior in Arco was blessed with clear blue skies and warmed by the brilliant sunshine and the irrepressible joy of the 1000 participants, children and parents alike who took part in the world youth climbing event.
From the early morning hours a multi-coloured crowd of children aged 5-13 invaded the Climbing Stadium green and assaluted the wall. 400 mini-athletes challengened each other on the immense Rock Master wall for the European Under 14 Cup. The biggest ever climbing competition for young champions was divided into 3 categories. This international meeting saw Italian climbers compete together with climbers from Austria, Luxemburg, Germany, Belgium, England, Sweden, Hungary, Czech Republic, Russia, Lethonia, Slovakia, Slovenia and the Ukraine.
Apart from this first round of the Under 14 Cup there were 150 young climbers who took part in the Climbing Campus. The Mountain Guides accompanied them to the base of the Colori for a real lesson in touch with nature and to understand this climbing game. This game continued later in the afternoon with a “climbing clown” and the speed competition, before all said goodbye until tomorrow’s event.
While expectations are high for the second round of tomorrow’s Under 14 Cup, today’s Italian Cup was won by Marcello Bombardi and Alexandra Ladurner (cat. A, 92/93); Valentina Rocco Casaretto and Alex Walpoth (cat. B, 94/95); Miriam Martini and Ladurner Markus (Cat. C, 96/97/98).
The Rock Junior festival continues tomorrow, Sunday 19, with the Kid’s Rock. This is open to all children who want to climb on the bouncy castle, cross the River Sarca and, obvviously, climb. The grand finale is dedicated to the Family Rock, the the relay competition for children and their parents.
All can participate: tomorrow starti at 9,00 at Climbing Stadium in Arco. The party continues!
